2013 National Cyber Security Awareness Month
Cyber Security Is Our Shared Responsibility

The Tenth Annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month is being celebrated during October 2013, as a collective effort among the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the National Cyber Security Alliance and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers.

This united effort is necessary to maintain a cyberspace that is safer, more resilient, and remains a source of tremendous opportunity and growth for years to come.

NCSAM is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity to increase the resiliency of the nation in the event of a cyber incident.

Cyber Pledge Contest

The MS-ISAC once again launced the Cyber Pledge. The pledge period opened in August and will continue through October 31st.

We invite you to join with thousands of other individuals across the country who are asserting their commitment to online safety. By signing the MS-ISAC National Cyber Pledge you are affirming that you will take security seriously and use good practices both at home and at work.

After you sign the pledge, please tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors...everyone you can! If we each pledge to do our part to make our piece of cyber space just a little bit more secure, we can truly make a difference in helping protect our nation's cyber security.

The pledge is available here: http://msisac.cisecurity.org/cyber-pledge/.

Winning entries of the National Contest will be included in the MS-ISAC 2015 Calendar, which is distributed to every state in the country as part of the MS-ISAC Cyber Security Awareness Toolkit. Governors' Proclamations

All 50 governors are being invited to endorse Cyber Security Awareness Month through the issuance of a proclamation or letter of support. Such recognition at the highest levels of government is an important component in ensuring all Americans have the opportunity to learn more about cyber security and how to safeguard themselves from cyber-based threats. Last year, all 50 governors signed a proclamation or letter of support.

Local Government Proclamations

We are also encouraging local government officials to recognize Cyber Security Awareness Month by signing proclamations or letters of support.

The National Cyber Security Alliance has advertised several events at its website: http://www.staysafeonline.org/ncsam/events. If your organization has an event coming up, please click here to let NCSA know about it: http://www.staysafeonline.org/ncsam/events/submit-ncsam-event

MS-ISAC State and Local Government Best of the Web Contest

On July 1, 2013, the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) launched its 5th annual "Best of the Web" contest, which aims to recognize state and local governments that use their websites to promote cyber security.

On August 20th, the MS-ISAC's Education and Awareness Workgroup began judging cyber security websites for all 50 state governments and several local governments based upon several criteria including cyber security content, usability, accessibility, and appearance. The goal of the contest is to recognize commendable sites and highlight them as best practices for others to consider when developing or re-designing their own sites.

The winners will be announced in October.
