The second webcast in the 2010 National Webcast series was held on April 21st with a featured presentation on Cloud Computing -- Security Considerations You Should Know. Over 800 individuals representing all 50 states, DC, the Territory of Guam, and six other countries registered for this event. Opening remarks were provided by Mr. William Pelgrin, Chair of the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, followed by Mr. Robert Griffin, Director of Technical Marketing at RSA, and Mr. Jeffrey Kipnis, Director of Security at AT&T.
Cloud computing provides on-demand network access to a shared pool of computing resources such as networks, servers, storage and applications. Cloud computing can generally be divided into three models: Software as Service, Platform as Service, and Infrastructure as Service.
While cloud computing can offer benefits - such as potential cost reductions and scalability of services - there are also security and privacy concerns that must be considered before moving to the cloud. The webcast included overviews of the different cloud computing models, discussion of the security challenges, and guidance for government, businesses and other organizations in addressing those issues to help protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of their data.
Format of Webcast:
This session featured an interactive Powerpoint presentation accompanied by audio.

***********************************************
The Department of Homeland Security’s National Cyber Security Division and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center have partnered to establish the National Webcast Initiative to develop a series of national webcasts which will examine critical and timely cyber security issues. Embracing the concept that security is everyone’s responsibility, these webcasts are available to a broad audience to help raise awareness and knowledge levels. A number of organizations have offered their services at no cost to government, to help develop and deliver the webcasts.
The National Webcast Initiative is also coordinated by the New York State Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination and the New York State Forum.
